2. Accepted from...Zimbabwe!
My offer to buy 25 acres in the Davis Mountains of West Texas has been verbally accepted! After a few days of worrisome unresponsiveness from the seller, my realtor received a call via satellite phone all the way from Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe! Technology. Is. Amazing.
You may be thinking, “Ricky, wait a minute… didn’t you say in the last post that you ordered grape vines? You ordered vines before you even had a place to plant them?” Yes, that is correct. I signed the contract to buy vines without any place to plant them. It turns out that the whole process of grafting grape vines and getting them ready for planting takes quite a while. I realized just in time that if I waited to order vines until closing on a property some, if not all, of the grape varieties I wanted for my vineyard would be sold out. I definitely did not want to wait until 2019 to plant my vineyard! Even two years head of time, one of the grape varieties I was thinking of planting, Tauriga Nacional, was already sold out. On the most basic level a vineyard consists of grape vines planted in dirt. I have the vines, and now I almost have the dirt.
The seller is returning to the USA tomorrow so, with some luck, the property should be under contract by the end of this week. Stay tuned for updates! Remember to subscribe at the bottom of the page.
